Solomon Aronson, MD, FACC, FACCP, FAHA, FASE

Solomon Aronson, MDDr. Aronson earned his BS in molecular biology with distinction at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and his MD with honors in research at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. After completing an internship in internal medicine at Albany Medical Center in New York, and an anesthesiology residency including a year as chief resident at the University of Texas Medical, he completed a fellowship in cardiac and vascular anesthesia at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.

Dr. Aronson spent 15 years at the University of Chicago where he was a professor and chief of cardiovascular anesthesia, then worked for industry before arriving at Duke in 2005. Currently he serves as Professor of Anesthesiology and the Execute Vice Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Aronson has written over 200 manuscripts, book chapters, editorials as well as 4 textbooks. He is a recognized expert and has lectured nationally and internationally on topics concerning echocardiography during surgery, strategies for surgical anticoagulation, intraoperative hypertension, risk of heparin, health economics, acute renal failure and other related topics in cardiovascular anesthesia and cardiology.

Dr. Aronson has been recognized for his excellence as both a clinician and physician researcher. He has been elected as member or Fellow of:

  • the American College of Cardiology
  • the American College of Chest Physicians
  • the American Heart Association
  • the American Society of Echocardiography
  • the Association of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologist
  • the Association of University Anesthesiologists

He is also an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists having served as a member of the economic committee, the American Society of Echocardiography where he served as president of the intra-operative council and the board of directors, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology where he serves on the executive board of directors, and a founding member of the National board of Echocardiography where he served on the board of directors.

Dr. Aronson has also served on the FDA for 3 years as a member of the Anesthesia and Life support advisory committee and has also been recognized as a member of “The Best Doctors of America” by his peers, three times throughout his career.

Dr. Aronson has done extensive research on:

  • transesophageal echocardiography
  • perioperative hypertension
  • anticoagulation pharmacology
